5 Scriptures to Cast Out the Spirit of Fear

Is fear bullying you? The Bible gives us wisdom about how to cast out the spirit of fear in 2 Timothy 1:7:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

2 Timothy 1:7

So, in the Spirit, fear is outnumbered 3-to-1! However, we must learn how to use these assets to our advantage. The cause of fear is found in its definition:

An emotion experienced in anticipation of pain or danger

The operative word here is anticipation.

For some people, even Believers in Jesus Christ, fear is a constant companion. While fear often disguises itself as anxiety, worry, or even concern; its most potent weapon is anticipation of the worst.

The enemy and his evil forces try to insert themselves in the lives of Believers, paralyzing us with dread so that we can’t fulfill our God-given purpose.

But God’s prescription breaks the chains of fear!

His perfect love is a powerful weapon to cast out fear, as stated in 1 John 4:18:

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

Love and fear cannot coexist. When we know God’s love, every level of fear loses its grip!

According to God’s word, fear is torment – a word that means severe mental or physical suffering. The Lord doesn’t want His children to live in such anguish, subject to the enemy’s bullying. Jesus Christ came to free us and destroy the enemy’s works!

God is our source of perfect peace, the opposite of fear.

Here are three more scriptures that can give us courage in the face of fear, fears such as the fear of rejection or fear of tomorrow (future):

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).’

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9).”

And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed (Deuteronomy 31:8).”

In all these verses, God whispers, “I am with you.” Let that truth sink into your heart when fear threatens to overwhelm you. You are never alone; the Lord walks beside you.

In addition, God’s word says, “Do not be dismayed.” This word means “not to be able.” When fear dismays you, it’s because you’re thinking, “I can’t handle this.” But in those moments, remember: the Lord is with you, and He is able.

Focus on what you know about God to appropriate His supernatural power. Remember:

  • He is omnipresent: He’s already been where you’re going and Is with you now.
  • He strengthens you: He won’t let you face anything alone.
  • He gives you wisdom: When you’re feeling lost, ask for the wisdom you need (James 1:5).

Keep meditating on these scriptures on a daily basis. They will prepare you to combat fear whenever it rears its ugly head. Take a bold step of faith in whatever the Lord calls you to do.

With Christ Jesus, faith over fear becomes more than a motto; it becomes your reality. Embrace true peace, perfect love, and claim your victory over fear today!

A Prayer Against Fear

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you today in humility, acknowledging that I sometimes feel fear and anxiety. Forgive me for any doubts about Your love that can result in a lack of power in my life.

I surrender my fears to You, Lord. I believe in Your Word’s promises that You are with me always, that You will never leave me nor forsake me, and that You have overcome the world.

Fill me with Your perfect love, which casts out all fear. Knowing You are by my side gives me the strength and courage to face my fears with faith.

Help me to focus on Your truth and not the enemy’s lies or any evil spirit that seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. I rebuke any assignment of fear the enemy might have against me! I take authority over fear through your Holy Spirit in me.

Empower me to take captive every thought that brings fear and anxiety and get them into obedience to Jesus Christ.

Thank You, Lord, for Your never-ending love, grace, and protection. I trust in You and surrender my all to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

May this prayer be a comfort and strength as you battle against fear. Remember, with God on your side, you are already victorious!

Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9 was given to me just as I was thanking you for your scriptures. “His grace is sufficient!!! His power is made perfect in my weakness!!!” Bless you Sister!!! From Thailand.

  • It is amazing how topics come up at JUST THE RIGHT TIME to teach and comfort. Either the teaching is just for me or we are all going through similar trials on a daily basis – as the world does not revolve around me I guess we really all are in this together – thank you!

    • Yes, Anne – we strengthen and encourage one another in the Lord. After all, our shared goal is to finish our race well in Him!

  • Hello Kimberly, praise the living Jesus for the Word today. I thank Him & (with your help) remind myself to walk in the victory that’s been won for me by my Lord & Saviour.

  • This is the first time I have read this posting and it helped me through the fear that I was experiencing at looking at this situation we’re going through right now ( Covid, unemployment and Our authority figures) it help me pray for them cause they “know not what they do” and God has love and forgiveness for Everyone. Let us show our light in the time of darkness and frustration. Love people God is love

  • Again thank you for this, realizing that it take time but I can do all things through Christ who does strengthen me. I can do it with God help.

    • Yes, Rhonda – I understand that because the truth connects with our spirit. God’s word is truth! Thank you for sharing your feedback 🙂

  • This word was so timely for me and so well put together. Thank you so much. I pray God continues to pour into you as you pour into us. Bless you Sis.

  • Hi Kimberly. I have recently come back to the Lord, and it has been a challenge for me. I spend most of my days with the Lord in my secret place on my bed. But at night I always get tormented this is the forest night now. I have read some of the scriptures that you had have here on this app and I very much appreciate this thank you so much I am so happy that Lord put it on your heart to put those scriptures on this app. I feel much better now since I have read those scriptures Romans 8:37 and many more. I don’t really have anybody where I live I don’t attend a church because I believe that like the scripture said Jesus will come and make his home in us, the Bible says that we are his church Christ in US hope of glory it’s not the building made with man’s hands. But I do have others that are from other parts of the state that I talk to on messenger.

    • Hi James – I am glad that these scriptures have been helpful to you. I will say that being in community of other believers does help because you are able to support one another on this journey, have others to whom to be accountable, and will tell you the truth when you need to hear it. It’s like going into battle knowing that other soldiers have your back 🙂 God bless you, Brother!

  • Hello Kimberly,
This post really hit home for me today. It was a Godsend. Thank you so much for that timely word. I happen to be in prayer earlier and I know this Word from the Lord was just for me. God is so wonderful and loving. God bless you. May you live long & strong.

  • Wow thanks for this! I am a senior (From the UK) and I am applying for university. I already got an offer but I need to get the grades. I was worrying yesterday because I was thinking that I wouldn’t meet up with the required grades. So I prayed and put it all in God’s hand. Now I just woke up and got this message in my email. Thanks for this!

  • God’s timing is amazing! This is the message I needed to remember I have a God who is able and goes before me to prepare the way. I enter this week not knowing if I will continue to have a job because my boss and I are at odds, but I know God loves me and has a plan for good. Why shall I fear when I have The Lord on my side.

Thank you, Kimberly for this wonderful reminder. Satan has no right to bully me. I will not fear.

    Cynthia

  • Blessings Kimberly
Thank you for this awesome! message! Fear!
This is something I have struggled with along with anxiety! I know there is no fear in God! Yeshua! has taken all of these on himself! They are nailed to the cross! We are free! So! Why do we fear! I believe! It is something the enemy holds over us! But! God has not!!! given us the spirit of fear! but of power! Love! and a sound mind! We need to quote scripture back to him when he tries to bring it upon us! We need to repeat back!
“It is written “. As Yeshua did! I am getting better at this! Getting stronger! Thank you! sooo much! Kimberly! An Awesome! Article!
    Mary Joy

    • Glad this was helpful to you, Mary Joy – when we submit to God and resist the enemy, he MUST flee. The Bible doesn’t say maybe – It’s our job it do things in order through submitting God and resisting the enemy, not the other way around 🙂

  • Thankyou For this!^ ^
Fear of rejection is always in my mind, i fear that God cant save me because i doubt and full of fears, im always afraid, so afraid. whenever i wanted to give up, somewhere inside me giving me Hope, but when i tried to go and battle fear again, i would tremble again and sometimes i poured out all of my tears that i cant cry anymore, and this makes things even harder, i cant release out some pain. I prayed and prayed to God, wondering where he is, I asked and asked , i prayed and prayed, i cried and i cried until i cant pour anything to release some stress. until it came to the point that the word “believe” and “faith” become my fears, because i am afraid might not make myself believe. Im asking for someone to pray for me please, because whenever i thought i believe that i would receive, i dont receive anything, i dont want to be impatient to God or anything, i just feel like im running out of time and i need to make things right with God. i had repented and renounced on some of my sins like anger, lust and pride, but now my biggest problem right now is “Doubt” and fear. Please pray for me to fight this battle of fear and to have a stronger faith to God. because when i want to give up, something gives me hope saying “Not yet!” thats why i cant.go back, I need help and prayers! please pray for me!

    • Hi Ivy – I pray with you and cast out the spirit of fear in the name of Jesus, never to return! You don’t say anything about Jesus in your message, so in case you don’t have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, then you can learn how here: https://www.everystudent.com/features/know-God.html. When you accept Jesus as your Savior, He took on all your sin at the cross and made you the righteousness of God in Christ. That is your new position – not dead in sin but alive in Christ! God doesn’t give you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Did you get that? Fear is outnumbered 3-to-1! Colossians 1:27 says, ”To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Jesus in you through the power of the Holy Spirit gives you power to do what you can’t do on your own. In Him, you have overcome the world and you have the power to overcome the spirit of fear. I pray the God’s angels battle on your behalf against the demonic spirit of fear that is fighting against you and that you emerge victorious!

    • I will pray for you. I been a believer for a long time since I am 15 and now I am 58 trust me I have many season feeling like u . I still battle fear and doubt . But praying for u

  • Thank you so much. I see that this is something God had you post way back in 2016, yet and still it’s what I needed today; some 3 years later. I oftentimes find that those of us whom others depend on to be strong in the word of God and our relationship with Him for them, are those who the enemy tries the most and God knows this last week has tried me. When my children are in trouble it’s like my spirit feels defeated and fear takes up residency on the inside of me. God has been so good to me and I have to start meditating on his word both day and night. My peace of mind means so much to me and I have to stop allowing it. I know too much about Him to ever feel an ounce of doubt about Him.

    • Amen, Tara! We get tested on this every day of our lives, some seasons more than others! But through it all, the Lord is faithful and perfects every concern that we have according to His promise. He wants us to cling to Him when fear tries to grip us and let His love cast out the fear. My prayer is that the Lord strengthen, help, and uphold you in His righteous right hand, in every situation, my sister!

  • Thank you Kimberley, for allowing yourself to be used by Our Lord to bring these Scriptures to bare on, “Fear,” that so often dominates our subconscious, Amen

  • You have thought me the most verse i needed as i Was almost giving up with fear.A friend told me fear means false evidence appearing real.

    • Obasi – just know that the fear is NOT coming from God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, ”For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Fear is outnumbered 3-to-1. Remind yourself of that truth whenever fear tries to overwhelm you.

  • Wow! I needed this quickly to speak over my situation and God brought me to the right place to hear you. Thank you for touching my heart and spreading the Hope and Grace that comes with ONLY Christ Jesus! ♥️

  • Blessings I am going through some personal issues, and I was praying this morning and the Lord guided me to Joshua 1:9., so I went on the internet and was browsing and came across your site. I thank you for the encouragement that I needed today.

  • Thank you Kimberly for these words of encouragement. I’ve been driving my life out of control by allowing fear to chase me. As I was reading, I begin to pinpoint areas where I have been allowing Satan to bully me. God’s word is my weapon of warfare. Now it’s time to stand bold as a lion and declare the word of God over my fears and take back what rightfully belongs to me. This was certainly an eye opener and a great inspiration. Once again, thank you…these words mean a lot.

  • Kimberly
Thank you for all your sharing, not just “say no” but depending on God and His Word –not by power or might but by His Spirit.
May God keep on blessing you and your ministry.
    Lots of love and prayers

  • we human being are always living with fear in different corner but our fear are different for other example Abraham fear the abesence of son his age goes without children but he has aman of GOD ,my quotation how set free without any fear i need your reply?

    • Because the scriptures I’ve given you in the article are based on a belief in Jesus Christ as your Savior, that’s the first step to cast out fear. To learn more about having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, go to this website: https://www.everystudent.com/features/gettingconnected.html

With a relationship with Jesus, you have the right to go to God in prayer using the prayer I mentioned in the article: “Lord, perfect me in your love.” As you learn to believe God’s love for you, you are able to love other people more. When you are occupied with loving people, then you have less fear of them. If you are fearful of a situation, you need to believe God’s word that He never leaves you nor forsakes you. With God on your side, you have no need to fear.

      • Thank you for all you do. I know and believe that Jesus is my Lord and Saviour. I also know that God has done wonderful things in my life. He has gone before me in many situations that I cannot even count, but still I am always afraid and worry constantly about my job, family and COVID 19. Recently it has become so difficult to pray, I can’t eat or sleep well and I have lost so much weight.
I really need to trust God and hand over everything to him. I know it in my head but I just can’t seem to get the message to my heart.

I will take the 40days challenge and pray that Jesus heals me and bless me with divine peace.

        • I am praying with you, Tee – Fear is torment, which means extreme physical and/or mental suffering. The Lord does not want that for His children. Jesus left us His peace and that is a fruit of God’s Spirit. The more you allow His word to renew your mind, the greater peace you will experience. You will focus on those things you can do something about, but release those things you can do nothing about in God’s hands through prayer. You’ll find His hands are the best hands!

  • All I can say is Wow! that is why people say the battle is in the mind! satan is trying to get us to agree with him as he did Eve. but if we stop his thoughts, ie take them captive, and kick them out, we can fill our minds with God’s truths! For so long I have wondered how to take thoughts captive, now I get it. Thank you to you both, God is doing such a ministry in my heart through you. Can’t wait to sweep a few thoughts out into the trash, next time they try to take up residence.

    • I listened to voice of deception and believed the lies cuz thought it was God speaking to.me and he got me to want to leave God and vthe faith. Help me please Marsha

      • Marsha all you need to do for help is to keep turning to God and realize that God only sends positive emotions and thoughts. So when you have a negative thought know it is not from God but the enemy and ask God to help you cast the negative thought away memorize and read aloud the scriptures you were given here. Hope this helps Love in Christ and many blessings to you. I will be praying for you

  • Hi Kimberly,

    *
First of all you must understand if you believe that:

    *
    2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

    *
Now “IF” you truly believe that, then you know when “FEAR” come upon you it is from the enemy.
Now that you know it is from the enemy, you now have a choice and a decision to make.
    *

Choice: Will you allow God or the enemy to motivate you?
Decision: Believe God for his Word and cast the fear out of you mind and heart based on the scripture that reads:
    *

    Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV)
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me, Says the LORD.”

    *
    The Bible also reads:
Mark 10:18(NLT) “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good.
James 1:17(NLT) “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
    *

ARMED with these four scriptures have just equipped you with “EVERYTHING” you need to combat the “Negative Emotions” which we now know comes directly from the enemy and NOT God or even from YOU, YOURSELF or KIMBERLY the daughter of God!
    *
A “choice” is a thought. A “decision” is an action.
So you must decide to take your thoughts and emotions captive because you can as you have the power and authority to do so according to:
    *

    2 Corinthians 10:5 (NKJV)
“Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
    ________________________
    *
Allow me to share with you how I take control over my negative thoughts and emotions.
    *
First I recognize that ALL my negative thoughts (EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM COMES FROM THE ENEMY! – every last one!!!) It’s not until I dwell on them for an extended amount of time (seconds not minutes) and/or speak those thoughts aloud that I make them my own and become the owner of the thoughts and emotions.
    *

You must understand that the enemy will never talk to you in the “Second Person” but ALWAYS in the “FORM OF THE FIRST PERSON”. He wants you to believe it is you who is doing the thinking but it’s not and again until you speak what’s on your mind it is NOT you. If you should speak it aloud, then you own it and it becomes YOU! If you dwell on it for a certain amount of time, you own it and it becomes you.
    *
Example: If a person is really bugging you to no end, the enemy won’t say to you “If she say one more thing to YOU, you should curse her out”. But rather he will say in your mind “If she say one more thing to “ME”, “I’m” going to curse her out!”
    *

When I have thoughts like that, I immediately rebuke/renounce that in the name of Jesus and command the enemy to get away from me as he has no place in my mind or heart and then I begin to think on Good things as they relate to God and my surroundings.
    *

(FOR ME ONLY) If after 10 seconds or more of thinking and entertaining that thought, I shake myself, cast that thought(s) out of my mind, change my emotion because emotions are also a choice and then I immediately ask God to forgive me for thinking that way and relishing in it. I will also ask God to help me to cast out the enemy taunts immediately from my mind going forward.

    *
    To sum it up:
Your negative thoughts and emotions are initiated from the enemy and you have the power and authority to immediately do something about it; it’s your choice and your decision!
    *

[Smiles] To God Be The Glory!!!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’m so glad I clicked on your email for this post. I really needed this today. I’m stepping out on faith into self employment and have been so consumed with worry and self doubt regarding it. I will be strengthening my mind and spirit man with these scriptures. May God continue to bless you!

  • Kimberly,

I am praying for you. I want your website to increase and to prosper even more than it is now. You speak Truth, and it has helped me as well.

Continue God’s great work and he forever blessed.

  • Thank you Kimberly for the truth of these words. I needed to hear it. I’ve been reading Joyce Meyer’s book, “Battlefield of the Mind” and this post goes right along with what I’ve been reading. I’m working on changing my thought patterns and asking God to help me think more positively and to not allow fear to grip my thoughts.

  • I’m going through a lot of things in my life right now and I’m thankful for your timely message. God bless you.

  • Thanks Kimberly for such a powerful reminder, and thanks for allowing God to use you. Your posts are very helpful… I’m going to write every one of these verses on cards and memorize them every morning. With love from Kenya!!!

  • So grateful for this timely advice just gone through a horrific night that I felt the enemy telling me what an praying for won’t come to happen n he showed me an image that I felt a lot of worry n anxiety thank u for this word indeed perfect love casts out fear.

  • Thank you! I noticed that all but one of your verses were from the Old Testament. I love them and receive them! I also realize that the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead now lives IN me! He makes us bold when we remember that He is there and that He is POWERFUL to cast down strongholds of imagination and wrong thoughts. Just dwelling on who God is, what He has done, what He can AND will do-all His promises are yes and amen!-will chase fear far from us! It might even allow us to shout a little for victory that we have in Christ and to laugh at the devil who is hightailing it out of our thoughts! Thank you for your posts. I read every one! I am a Pastor’s wife and I often share them with the ladies in my congregation as well. They are such an encouragement.

  • I save ll your messages for when I have “time” to read and catch up. I m always behind but this one about fear is right on time. I read it on the spot and I will use your suggested scripture to become stronger and equipped to deal with fear. Thank you!

  • Thank you – the Lord is using your posts and His Word to speak to me and change me with the Truth. May you draw nearer to Him with each day that passes. Blessings from a sister in Christ.

  • Thanks Kimberly for such a powerful word. For too long I have allowed the enemy to run over me with fear worry and doubt but I will meditate upon the word of God that I no longer have to walk in fear and I just thank you for your obedience or how you always give a good word God bless you
