The Best Gift Ever (Prayer)

How many days have you been alive already?

I thought about this question after meditating upon Psalm 90:12:

So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Out of curiosity, I decided to number my days – literally. I found an online tool that calculates how many days you’ve been alive.

Click here to discover the number of days you’ve been alive.

When I saw my number, I was shocked.

As of this day, I’ve been alive 19,228 days. This day will be different from all the days before it and all the days after it.

Each day is precious. To me, this gives new meaning to John 10:10:

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Rather than focus on days wasted or days that the enemy has stolen from you through deception, express gratitude to the Lord for the abundance of days He has given you already!

Praise God that you are a Survivor…an Overcomer.

Within each day is a new opportunity to see life as it really is.

It is an invitation to walk through each day, hand-in-hand Spiritually with your Savior.

Whether good days, hard days, boring days, or “more excitement than you can handle” days, you get to experience all of your upcoming days with the One who loves you so much that He laid down His life for you.

Consider the meaning of life itself, found in John 17:3:

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

Don’t let another day pass without sharing it with the One who gave you life. Consider the lyrics of the song ‘Day by Day‘ from the movie/play “Godspell:”

Day by day
Day by day
Oh Dear Lord
3 things I pray
To see thee more clearly
Love thee more dearly
Follow thee more nearly
Day by day

This is my simple, daily prayer:

Lord, help me to know you better at the end of my day than I did at the start.”

So dear sister or brother in Christ, how many days have you been alive already? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Ask yourself, “How will I embrace this day and really live?”

The Lord loves you for life. Don’t let another day pass without enjoying the best gift ever!

Be blessed with health and wholeness,

  • 22587 days of the 37595 I’d like to live ☺️ Each day is a new beginning! Thanks for this TBYT program. You are a blessing to many!

  • I thank God every day for the time and health he gives me regardless of how abusive I am to myself. It’s only by His Grace that I’m alive.

  • KImberly,

    What a great post!

It’s such a reminder to carpe diem (seize the day) and to give thanks well in the gift of each day! 1 Thess 5:18

  • Thanks for the encouragement as it’s always so timely and needed. I’m going through a difficult season in my life as a 52 year old care giver of my live in mom. She’s regressed so in the past couple of months that it has really devastated me. I feel I’m holding on by a thread.

    • Hi Sophia – I am praying with you. Sounds like you are going through some difficult days. Remember that you aren’t alone in them. The Lord is holding you through this and you will receive a great reward as you are caring for (honoring) your mother in her senior years.

  • Kimberly,
Thank you so much for reminding me of the great “Day By Day” song. I have not heard it in years and actually never realized it it quite a neat prayer.
Thanks for sharing your sweet spirit throughout the year. Merry Christmas!
    Peggy

    • Thank you, Sherry – as I was talking about this article with Mike, he said “day by day” and the Holy Spirit reminded me of the song, which is one of my favorites as well. May you continue to rejoice in the days to come!
