4 Words God will Never Say to You

women speaker

A couple of days ago, I had the weirdest thought about dryer sheets. You know…the ones you put into a dryer to eliminate static cling in your clothes.

That strange image came into my head as I was meditating on Deuteronomy 30:20:

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”

The phrase “cling to him” stood out to me. That’s when I saw a dryer sheet stuck to a piece of clothing.

Unless you pull it off, that dryer sheet will go wherever that piece of clothing goes.

I suddenly thought: “I want to be like that with God!”

Now people might say things like, “You are too needy,” “You are smothering me,” or “I need my space.”

But God will never say those things to you. He especially won’t say: “You are too clingy.”

In the Bible, God gives you several reasons why He wants His people to be “clingy” with Him.

The above scripture gives you a couple of  them. You will also learn how to become more clingy later in this article:

1. Your Life and Length of Days is in Him

God desires that His people develop a relationship with Him. He does not desire empty words and robotic religious rituals.

The only way you can come to know God is to open your heart and share your daily life with Him. John 17:3 says, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

You can obtain everything else this world has to offer, but if you miss coming to know God in your daily experience then you miss life itself.

2. Your Inheritance is in Him

In the above scripture, God wanted His people to cling to Him because He was bringing them into the Promised Land and He wanted them to hold on to it!

Claiming the Promised Land was not going to be easy; they would have many enemies to fight to take over that territory. The Lord knew they would have no hope of ultimate victory without His help.

They needed His grace, wisdom, strength, and power to overcome.

We are in that same situation with the challenges we face in life.

No matter what talents, gifts, and assets we have, they are going to pale in comparison when we consider all we have available to us in God!

3. Your Purpose is in Him

In Jeremiah 13:1-11, the Lord tells the prophet to wear a linen sash around his waist. Then, the Lord tells him to remove the sash and bury it by the river Euphrates. A

fter many days, the Lord told Jeremiah to retrieve the sash from the place it was hidden. Jeremiah found the sash ruined and profitable for nothing.

Verses 8-11 records what the Lord said to him:

Thus says the Lord: ‘In this manner I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing. For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,’ says the Lord, ‘that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’

This story shows what can happen to God’s people when we refuse to cling.

The people of Judah refused to do it because of pride and a desire to follow their own counsel, not God’s counsel.

God desires us to be a people who cling to Him for His renown, His praise, and His glory.

What a high honor it is for our Lord to choose us to represent Him in this manner!

So how can we become more clingy people? In the natural, the dryer sheet clings to clothing because it is attracted to it!

In a similar way, when we meditate on the goodness of God, all that He has done for us, and His character, then we become more attracted to Him.

Philippians 4:8 says:

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”

Everything related to Jesus fits this description. This is a meditation God gave me a few years ago:

  • True: Jesus is the living Word and His word is true.
  • Noble: Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross for my sins.
  • Just: Jesus paid for my sin debt, so I am no longer condemned under the law.
  • Pure: Jesus lived a sinless life and He is my ultimate role model on how to live right.
  • Lovely: I love Jesus because He first loved me.
  • Good report: Hallelujah, I have overcome the world through Jesus!
  • Virtue: I am being transformed into Jesus’ virtuous image from glory to glory.
  • Praiseworthy: I am seated in heavenly places in Christ and He lives in me now and forever.

Today, take some time to meditate on God’s goodness. Don’t fight your desire to get closer to Him.

Get clingy and you will find more life, an inheritance and purpose in Him!

Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,

When Love Wins – For Real

iStock_000007292096_Small

Do you know what the “good part” is in a romance? Okay, confession time:

When I was a teenager, I loved romance novels. I devoured them by the case.

I especially loved it when I finally reached “the good part.”

For those who do not know what the “good part” is, this is the part of the story where, after many pages of overcoming obstacles together, the heroine and hero finally become intimate with one another.

Well if you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, then you are living out the greatest love story ever told!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).”

This Hero, this Son, sacrificed His life for you over 2,000 years ago. He saved you from sin’s bondage. He’s noble, brave and true.

His character is beyond reproach. You have overcome many obstacles together.

But have you trusted Him enough to give Him your all?

Have you become His bride – and as such, are enjoying the “good part” of your story with Him daily?

Earthly marriage is a picture of the Spiritual intimacy Christ is meant to have with His church.

Unfortunately, many people have started their love story with Jesus, but never get around to the “good part.”

They think that coming to Salvation is the end of the story. But actually, salvation is just the beginning!

Jesus Himself talked about the “good part” in the following story:

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”

And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her (Luke 10:38-42).”

Many Christians are like Martha. They welcome Jesus into their house through saying the prayer of salvation. But that is where their story ends.

Their minds get pre-occupied with work, raising children, pursuing personal goals, or even ministry. They never let Jesus become part of their private world.

So Jesus remains just a common guest to them, not an honored member of their family.

In contrast, Jesus said that Mary chose the good part. Mary made a decision to sit at Jesus’ feet. She gave Him her full attention. She treasured His word and wanted to hear what He had to say.

According to Jesus, that is the good part!

In John 14:21-24, Jesus gives us a pattern for greater intimacy with Him:

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.’

Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, ‘Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?’

Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.'”

The way to know the Lord at a deeper level is to hear the word, meditate on the word, and do the word. You are not doing this to earn God’s love; after all, you already have that.

Rather, you obey His word because you love Him.

Loves comes first, then obedience, not the other way around! When you obey the Lord’s word, it becomes part of who you are. By extension, so does He.

One of my constant prayers is this: “Lord, perfect me in your love.” It is based upon the following scripture:

Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us

– 1 John 4:17-19

I’ve had several opportunities to get perfected in love. Recently, my husband Mike and I went to the drive-through of a popular fast food restaurant to get a breakfast sandwich. The lady who served us was quite rude. Now, if I had not been spending intimate time with my Savior daily, I might have been rude in return.

However, Jesus’ words came back to my remembrance in the face of her rudeness:

But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust (Matthew 5:44-45).”

So we were nice to her and as we drove away, we prayed for her salvation, her family, her generations and that the Lord would perfect everything that concerns her according to His word.

Love wins!

Jesus’ word became real to us as we put it into practice. It is the same process as eating natural food; eventually the food you eat becomes building blocks for your body. Taking in God’s word and putting it into practice builds your Spirit.

In contrast, Jesus said that those who do not love Him do not keep His word. These are the people of whom the Lord says:

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

– Matthew 7:21-23

This tells me that the Lord values intimacy with you above any service that you can render.

You never want to be among those of whom the Lord declares, “I never knew you.”

Therefore, make it a priority to spend quiet time in relationship building with your Savior every day, just the two of you.

In your prayer time, don’t just present a laundry list of requests to Him and leave. Enter into your chamber with thanksgiving and praise for what He has done for you.

Have a burning desire to hear the word He has for you today. The Lord often speaks to me through the Bible or even as I am performing a mundane task, like mowing the lawn with a pushmower. No matter what you do, purpose to have ears that hear His word and a heart to obey it.

Your goal is to maintain a relationship of intimacy: You put Jesus’ words into action until they become a part of you.

Like in a romance novel, you may go through trials and tribulations but your Savior is always with you. He loves you and will never leave you nor forsake you. And someday, He is coming back for you (see John 14:1-3).

Wow, what a love story! I am so glad that I am living it. How about you?

An Open Letter to Christians about Gay Marriage Legalization

Love-and-coffee

Dear Fellow Brother or Sister in Christ,

This is a long letter, so you might want to get yourself a cup of coffee, water, and go to the bathroom before you sit down to read it.

Hi, I’m Kimberly Taylor and I’m an ex-fornicator.

There, I said it. It doesn’t matter what other roles I fulfill in life; I am writing this message as an ex-fornicator who was saved by the grace of God.

Before I state what I believe about gay marriage legalization in the United States, I want to be open about where I was. In that way, you will know that I am not writing this from a “high and mighty” attitude.

I am writing this from a position of humility, in full knowledge of the goodness of God, where I was, and from where God has brought me.

Many Christians are lamenting the Supreme Court’s ruling about homosexual marriage in the U.S. While I don’t agree with the ruling either, I planned to keep my feelings about the issue private originally.

But that changed after discovering that a Christian acquaintance wrote on social media that they were pleased with the ruling. They didn’t explain why and they didn’t have to – after all, their opinion is their right.

However, I do want to go on record as to why I believe what I believe about homosexual marriage. I am writing this to those who declare Jesus as their personal Savior and may not know or are confused about what the Bible says on this issue.

We are exhorted to tell the truth in love and that is what I’m striving to do. My viewpoint on this issue stems from the Believer’s relationship with God and His three major roles in our lives: He is our Father, our Judge, and our King.

How you see this issue is linked intimately to how you see God’s role in your life.

Please understand that I am not trying to convince anyone to feel as I do. I will let God’s word speak for itself. As the old saying goes, “A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.”

If necessary, we can agree to disagree and go forth in love.

God as Our Father

I said the prayer of Salvation to accept Jesus as my Savior back in 1992. But I did not change for nearly 10 years. Although I went to church during that time, I didn’t read the Bible and nor have any personal relationship with God during the week.

However God ended up changing my life starting in 2001. I went to a Christian women’s conference and it was there I experienced God’s love and His desire for me to know Him personally. I never knew that, even though I called myself a Christian for nearly 10 years!

Back then, feelings of abandonment, unworthiness, and unresolved anger haunted me. I also had a boyfriend with whom I was having sex. Fornication, remember?

But once I knew how much God loved me, I had a hunger to know “Who is this God?” So I started reading the Bible, beginning with the book of John. I saw God in action in the person of Jesus Christ. I felt God speaking to me through the Bible.

As I came to know God, I realized that He desired the best for me. Like any good Father, He made it clear in His word what was good for me and what was not.

God as my Father said in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20:

Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

God gave me a new identity as His precious daughter. Before that, I saw myself as an illegitimate daughter whose Earthly father did not love nor want her.

But as God’s daughter, I saw that I was made for more than that for which what I was settling. This scripture tells me:

• Sexual immorality hurts my body and emotions ultimately
• My body does not belong to me but to God
• My body has a high purpose as use for God’s glory

Once I saw myself through God’s eyes, then I could no longer accept the substandard relationship I had with my boyfriend. I knew that what I was doing was against my Father’s wishes.

So I broke up with my boyfriend. It was not easy. But since I believe God created my body too, then I figured He must know something about how it works that I do not know!

My Father did not want me causing harm to myself. Above all, I believe He wanted to protect my heart so that He could teach me what real love is. Because I believed in God’s word, I was willing to stop fornicating.

I never had another sexual relationship with anyone until I joined with my husband in Holy Matrimony nearly 10 years later. Yes, the wait was longer than I wanted, but it was worth it!

On our wedding day, we fulfilled God’s view of marriage:

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed (Genesis 2:24-25).”

We continue to operate our marriage according to Biblical principle:

Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband (Ephesians 5:33).”

I believe that God wants His best for all of His children according to His word and is grieved when we choose to settle for and sanction lifestyles that harm others.

God as Our Judge

Hebrews 4:13 tells me that someday we will all give account to God for what we have done in these Earthly bodies:

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”

In Jeremiah 9:23-24, the Lord gives us important information about what He is like:

Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,’ says the Lord.'”

A Judge

While you see that the Lord delights in exercising lovingkindness, He is also a God of judgment and righteousness. Think of a natural judge. Doesn’t a judge have standards by which he judges?

A judge is not going to judge based on what the plaintiff nor the defendant see as right in their own eyes. That is going to vary almost as much as the number of eyes!

Rather, the judge is going to deliver judgment based on what is written in the law. I believe the Lord’s law is written in His word, the Bible. If He judged based on individual opinion, then we could declare Him unjust, prone to partiality. But He is not. He always judges righteously.

When someone engages in a practice that goes against God’s word and a Christian says something about it, they might be told: “You are judging me.” Actually, no they are not because they have no power to judge. Think about this:

You are driving on the Interstate. The posted speed is 70 miles per hour. You are driving the speed limit, but you spot a friend of yours zooming by at 100 miles per hour. Then let’s say that you meet with that friend later.

You tell that friend they should slow down their speed because you don’t want them to get a ticket, end up in jail, or dead. You are not a judge, so you have no power whatsoever to issue a penalty. However, you do warn the friend about what is written because you are concerned about their life and you know that there is going to be a penalty for violating what is written.

Your friend might say that you hate them, that you are narrow-minded, that you are intolerant, or that you are a “Speedophobic.”

While none of that is true, it is a risk you should be willing to take as a caring friend. You are just informing them about what is written. As adults, they have the right to choose whether to heed your warning or not.

So regarding the homosexual marriage issue, I give my dissenting viewpoint because I believe that God as my Judge has already written down His ruling on the issue:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”

Did you get that? This message is actually written to those who declare Jesus as their Savior. Actually, this message was for me because in addition to other sins, it names “fornication” as one. And the truth is that there are far more fornicators than homosexuals in the typical church.

Thankfully, if you find yourself in sin then God wants to get you out! A promise is found in 1 John 1:9:

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Take God at His word. Humble yourself, ask for His help in prayer, and do what He tells you to do. It may not be easy, but you will have confidence that it is right.

People always say “The truth shall set you free” but have no idea of what truth is. Jesus defined it in John 8:31-32:

If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Abiding means “living in.” Jesus Himself is the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father but through Him (see John 14:6). He said it and I agree with Him! Living according to God’s Word makes you free from sin’s bondage.

If you believe that God has power to forgive you of sin through salvation, don’t you believe that He has power to deliver you from sin through His grace?

God as Our King

One of the saddest statements in the Bible is found in Judges 21:25 and I believe it describes the Spiritual condition of this country today:

In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”

iStock_000016470126_Small

In those days, the Israelites did not have a king to set policy over them. So each person did whatever they felt like doing. But for those of us who name the name of Christ, we do have a King to set policy over us!

I have already stated what God’s definition is of marriage in Genesis 2:24-25. Because I see God as my King, then I must oppose any man-made definition that contradicts His. I take this scripture as a warning:

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness (Matthew 7:21-23)!'”

To me, what distinguishes a Christ disciple from one who has said the prayer of salvation only is this: The former is one who has said the prayer of salvation, but also wants to learn about and obey the written Word of God. A disciple follows a path of instruction and is submitted to Jesus, not led by what is right in his own eyes.

Jesus Himself said the following in Luke 6:46-49:

But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Because I see God as my King, then His word is final authority in my life.

In summary, I oppose the legalization of homosexual marriage because it opposes God’s word. I do not fear homosexuals, which “phobic” means in the word “homophobic.” “Phobic” means “fear.” Think of an agoraphobic, a person who fears going outside or an arachnophobic, one who fears spiders.

A Christian has no need to fear speaking God’s truth:

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).’”

I do not hate homosexuals. Just because I disagree with someone’s lifestyle does not mean that I hate them. God does not hate them either. He knows each of their journeys more intimately than I ever could. He knows where they came from and where they are going – just like he does an ex-fornicator like me!

God changed my life through the power of His word. And His desire is that we share the change that we found in Jesus with others, including those who are living the homosexual lifestyle. Jesus died so that they might come to salvation too – and freedom.

We must share our faith in a spirit of love and humility. Scripture never said that others would know that we belong to Jesus by how many Christian songs we know or how many Bible verses we can quote.

John 13:35 gives us our strategy:

By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Sometimes love means telling those whom you love what they do not want to hear. You parents out there probably know this better than anyone!

I have decided I am going to keep on standing on God’s word. It hasn’t failed me and I know it never will. I will not be silent about nor sanction lifestyles that I believe destroy people. As a fellow disciple of Christ, I hope you come to the same conclusion.

Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,

Kimberly Taylor

Shining Face
Grow Spiritually, Scriptures

How to Get a Spiritual Facelift

Did you know acting a certain way can alter your physical appearance according to the Bible?

If your face is downcast and showing your age, then you have the power to brighten it right up!

If you put this principle into action, you will bring glory to God because you will be reflecting His glory.

The idea of a Spiritual facelift came to me from meditating on the following scripture:

Who is like a wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, And the sternness of his face is changed (Ecclesiastes 8:1).”

Wow, do you mean that becoming wiser will make your face shine? Yes, and that is not the only place the Bible states that fact. Daniel 12:3 says:

Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever.”

The Bible has two examples that I know about of people who shined physically. The first is Moses.

Do you remember how Moses’ face shone after he came down from the mountain after God gave Him the 10 commandments (Exodus 34:29)? Not only had He been in God’s presence (who is the source of wisdom itself), but He had God’s law in his hands, written wisdom.

And Matthew 17:1-2 tells us that Jesus’ face shone:

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.”

This shining did not come from grease, but from God’s glory! I believe that God wants each of us to be shining examples of His glory!

That is why He gave us His word to live by. Deuteronomy 4:6 says this about God’s word:

Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

Does that sound good to you? It does to me! God’s people were not meant to fit into this world, but to stand out – in a good way.

If you need a Spiritual facelift, then think about the wisdom God has already given you.

Are you walking in it?

2 Timothy 3:6-7 gives us a warning that we would all do well to heed. Paul was talking about false prophets:

For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

God wants His people free, untangled from the yoke of sin’s bondage. We live in freedom when we live according to God’s truth! Don’t be like the foolish virgins in the parable Jesus told in ‘The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins (see Matthew 25:1-13).’”

Recall that both groups had lamps (the containers for light), but only the wise had oil with them (the fuel for light). The foolish did not.

Symbolically, oil represents the Holy Spirit. Jesus sent Him to us to guide those who believe in Him in the ways of wisdom.  In addition, oil is associated with joy (see Isaiah 61:3).

So again consider what God has already spoken to you about what you ought or ought not be doing. Write that down. Think about how you can put it into practice in your daily life. Then, look for opportunities daily to do so.

This is what Joshua 1:8 is all about:

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

You don’t just read the Bible to heap up knowledge; you ‘observe to do.’

That means that you look for opportunities to put what you learn into action each day.

Knowledge then becomes wisdom in your life.

The path of wisdom may not always be easy, but the rewards are worth it!

Take God at His word and put this principle to work. Proverbs 19:8 promises:

He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.

After a period of time of wise living, watch your face start to shine. The oil of joy will be inside of you. Plus, you will feel better about yourself, which will reflect outwardly so that others can see it!

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).”

Be blessed in Health, Healing, and Wholeness,

— Kimberly Taylor

How to Appropriate God’s Word

Note: The following article was written by the late minister Kathy Logan (pictured). She was the author of the eBook “Secrets to Always Answered Prayer.”

I purchased her ebook and listened to her online prayer classes. They strengthened my prayer life greatly.

Shortly after discovering Kathy online, I found out that she went home to be with the Lord. She was only in her early 40s, but she influenced so many with her loving teaching. I know this article will bless you as you apply the truths Kathy shared.

**************

To gain a deeper understanding of God’s powerful word, we have to do more than hear it. Hearing the word is not all that is required.

Just because you heard a great message or read an encouraging word does not make that word become yours automatically even though you may understand what you heard and agree with it enthusiastically.

Spiritual truth does not become our possession at once. If we don’t take time to appropriate God’s word, the message we hear will soon fade out of our minds and be forgotten.

This may be one of the causes of stagnation in our lives: the failure to meditate in God’s word.

This means more than pondering and contemplating it, although, this too is needed.

But we should meditate in such a way as to have a conversation in secret with God about His word so that we may know it and do it.

When you hear new truth, it comes to you through your ears or through your eyes and it goes into your mind. It doesn’t reach your soul straightway.

In order for the truth you heard to have the power to set you free, it has to seep through from your intellect to your soul – your mind, thoughts, will, and emotions.

Jesus said we would know the truth and the truth would set us free. Yet you and I would probably agree that the amount of truth we know far outweighs the amount of freedom we experience. Wouldn’t you agree?

Why is that? Why is the amount of truth we know always expanding, yet our degree of freedom is not keeping pace?

It is not the word we hear that will free us; it is the words that we don’t forget that will free us. This is so important. Hear this and don’t miss it!

It is not a matter of how much information you store in your mind that determines your success or degree of freedom; It is a matter of remembering to walk in the truth you know in your day-to-day living experiences.

The one who will be blessed is not the one who heard, but the one who doesn’t forget what he heard, but through private, earnest meditation takes full possession of it.

But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the law of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets, but an active doer who obeys, he shall be blessed in his doing—-in his life of obedience. James 1:25 The Amplified Bible

We have to take time to meditate on the word so that we can appropriate it.

The verb appropriate means to

1. To set apart for a specific use:

2. To take possession of or make use of exclusively for oneself. To take to or for oneself, make one’s own, take over, assume ownership, or possess.

We want to be possessors of God’s word. Our goal should be to make it our own.

When we become true possessors of His word, then we’ll be possessors of the promises.

Your Innermost Place

Our goal should always be to allow the word of God to connect with your total being and not just our intellect, although our intellect is the place where it connects first. Your desire should be to receive the word of God in your mind, spirit, thoughts, and emotions –your innermost place.

The innermost place is that vital, intangible place in human beings where our thoughts, actions, and emotions are conceived. It is the animating and vital principle within us.

Although it cannot be seen, it is the cause of what is seen. This is the very real place where we want God’s word to find it’s residence –in our innermost place.

Immediately when we hear the word, if we receive it with gladness, it enters into our intellect. But it is only when we set ourselves in silence before God and give Him time…

…that He begins to take the word we heard and breathes it deeper into us, connecting us to it in a more intimate way.

Sometimes this experience can happen in a moment, but regularly it does not. God requires us to seek after Him for the deeper understanding. As we spend time meditating in God’s word, we come to know the truth.

The truth becomes fixed, rooted, united, and identified with us in such a way that the Word is no longer a separate thing apart from us, but we become one with Him.

When that happens, following the Word is no longer a struggle. It comes to us automatically with little effort because the Word is who we are. …and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. We are truly coming to know the truth and it is setting us free.

There can be no knowledge without emotion. We may be aware of a truth, yet until we have felt its force, it is not ours. To the cognition of the brain must be added the experience of the soul.
