The #1 Weapon of the Enemy Used Against You

Post Image - Enemy StrategyA few nights ago, I was listening to a sermon in which the speaker said that pressure is the main weapon of the enemy used against believers.

I wasn’t sure if I agreed with that, so I thought about it.

Others have said that lies or deception are his main strategy, so I considered those too.

I finally drew a conclusion: While I believe that pressure, lies, and deception are part of the enemy’s tactics, one strategy overrides them all.

It is the same strategy used to deceive Eve in the Garden of Eden. He has been using it on mankind ever since.

Many people are under the influence of this strategy. The enemy controls them like puppets on a string.

If you do not get wise to this strategy, you too will become a victim of it.

This is essential knowledge to have if you want everything the Lord has for you this year.

What is this weapon? The fear of loss.

If you are hesitant about doing what is good and what the Lord has told you to do, then check if the fear of loss is controlling your decision.

Fears of loss include:

  • Fear of losing love
  • Fear of losing a relationship
  • Fear of losing respect
  • Fear of losing control
  • Fear of losing comfort
  • Fear of losing health
  • Fear of losing money
  • Fear of losing our image before others
  • Fear of losing people’s approval or affirmation

Fear of deprivation, worry, and anxiety are also forms of fear of loss.

The fear of loss even deceived the first woman, Eve. God had told her husband Adam not to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, for if he did, he would surely die.

First, the enemy got her to question what God said. Then he lied about what God said (see Genesis 3:6-7).

The war was on. Eve started occupying her mind with what the enemy told her rather than remaining focused on what God said.

The first sin mankind committed was unbelief in God’s word. Eve believed that eating from the “Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil” was something good that she was missing out on, which is fearing loss.

By playing upon your fear of loss, the enemy’s ultimate lie is that you will not be able to live without the thing you fear losing.

But you have to remember that the Lord is with you. His wisdom is available to you. He will comfort you, even in the midst of loss. He has already gone before you, so you do not need to fear:

“And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed (Deuteronomy 31:8).”

Not only that, but He lives and works within you:

for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).”

The ultimate fear of loss is fearing death. When I said that the enemy lies and makes you think you will not be able to live without the thing you fear losing, he is tapping into mankind’s fear of death.

But you do not have to fear even death if Jesus Christ is your personal Savior. You have eternal life in Him.

He came to set you free from all fears on this Earth, even death:

…that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage (Hebrews 2:14-15).”

If fear of loss has you in bondage to any addiction or destructive habit, then ask yourself, “What am I afraid I will lose if I don’t do this?”

Ask the Lord for revelation in this. Find a word from the Lord to plant in your heart, believe it, and practice it daily.

His perfect love casts out all fears when you believe Him.

The enemy wants you to occupy your mind with fear, cares, and worries so that you lose focus on what the Lord has for you. Not only that, but these things choke God’s word within you so that it becomes unfruitful (see Matthew 13:22).

You must protect God’s word within you at all costs!

So put your mind to work reading, meditating upon, listening to, and practicing God’s word. When the cares and fears come knocking, don’t even go there. Send Jesus to answer the door.

Like a gardener, commit to protecting God’s word within you so that it bears Spiritual fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control to glorify Him (Galatians 5:22-23 and John 15:8).

When you are occupied with God’s love and solidified in God’s word, then the fear of loss will no longer have a hold on you.

Be blessed with health, healing, and wholeness,

Your Problems versus God’s Power

Perspective

Mike and I sometimes look for Spiritual lessons in the movies we watch. The other day, we watched a movie on Amazon Prime called, “Temple Grandin.” Based on a true story, the movie is about an autistic woman, her struggles to overcome her social limitations, and eventual triumph as a innovator in cattle handling design.

At one point in the movie, it shows Temple as a teenager having to solve a scientific problem dealing with optical illusion. As I watched the movie scene, a Spiritual lesson came to me about how our problems can be magnified or shrunk depending on how we look at them.

Take a look at this 5-minute clip from the movie below and then I will share what God showed me about how you can take the right perspective about problems. With the right perspective, you can access the hidden treasures of knowledge and wisdom needed to overcome them through Christ Jesus.

Did you notice that the items in the room appeared either bigger or smaller, depending on the room’s construction surrounding them? Your brain assesses the size of your problems in a similar way.

  • If you see your resources as small, then your problems are magnified by comparison.
  • If you see your resources as large, then your problems are smaller by comparison.

As a Christian, the second viewpoint is the right perspective. Why? Because the resources you have in Jesus are limitless! You have His wisdom inside of you through the Holy Spirit.

In John 16:13-15, Jesus says:

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.”

One of our biggest fears in dealing with problems is that we won’t be able to handle them. But as a Believer, you don’t have to handle your problems alone! The Holy Spirit is your Comforter and your Friend.

Your main job is to seek what He has to say to you daily because He has the solution for whatever problem you face.

To gain the right perspective, it is wise to construct a mental “faith room” around your problems. This room is constructed of reminders of God’s power and presence in your life. In this way, you will have confidence that you can handle everything that comes your way with His help:

Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’”

Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Colossians 2:2-3
“that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

1 Corinthians 2:12
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”

Proverbs 16:16
How much better to get wisdom than gold!
And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Jesus makes us a promise in Matthew 7:7-8:

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

Decide to become a faithful Asker, Seeker, and Knocker. Don’t give up until you get your answer! When you get your answer, then do what the Lord tells you to do.

Often, people ask the Lord for a solution to a problem and when He gives it, they don’t like what He tells them to do. So they won’t do it. This reminds me of an old joke:

A man is working on his roof, slips and begins sliding toward the edge. He grabs hold of the roof edge and is hanging on for dear life. He looks heavenward and says, “If there is anybody up there who can help, please help me!”

The Lord answers the man: “I am here to help. Just let go. I will catch you.”

The man pauses and takes a deep breath. Then he says, “Is there anybody else up there who can help me?”

Again, hearing the answer is only one part of the solution. Putting the answer into practice is the most important part.

When you start putting God’s answers into practice, your problems will be shrunk to manageable size and the Lord will be magnified!

Spiritual Warfare in Weight Loss, Part 1

Did you know that weight loss and overcoming overeating starts with recognizing that you are in a Spiritual battle?

Many Christians make the mistake of thinking it is only about eating properly and exercise.

I made that mistake.

I was a Registered Nurse, so I knew about eating properly and exercise. My problem was that I couldn’t make myself do what I knew to do – at least, not for long!

Then I’d go back to those habits that made me gain the weight in the first place.

That is why I would lose weight, but I would always gain it back. I needed help. And that is where God came in.

When I had a severe chest pain that I thought was going to kill me, He said to me, “It is not supposed to be this way.”

Would I choose to believe Him or not? I decided to believe Him and answer His call.

I believe He is calling you too.

As a disciple of Christ, you play a vital role in God’s story to save mankind from their sins. You are called to share the gospel with those who don’t know Jesus.

That is the big story of life – the baseline of your purpose.

We’ll discuss that more later because you must focus on the big story to win the little battles!

However, the enemy wants to trap you in the little story of life. The little story is focused on you.

The little story is about paying bills, heaping up material things, and entertaining ourselves.

Even our eating and weight issues can be part of the little story if we don’t approach them with the right perspective.

To live out the big story of life, you must be aware of the Spiritual battle you are called to fight:

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12).”

You have a real enemy who is out to steal, kill, and destroy you (see John 10:10).

A few months ago, a reader named Teresa wrote to me about this issue.

It was around the same time that the Holy Spirit gave me the idea for this Spiritual warfare series:

“Hello Kim!

My name is Teresa and I have been receiving your emails for several months now! Your emails cause me to really think, which is good!

I wanted to share something with you. Jesus has been showing me this week that gluttony and obsessing over food is a sin, just as evil as any other sin, such as murder. I believe Satan is busy in the church buildings with all of the banqueting going on inside. Gluttony is one of the most accepted sins in the church, going on right under our noses!

I want to encourage you because Jesus will give you the strength and compassion to address this issue. It is an ugly sin that grieves the heart of Jesus. As the church fills its stomach to excess, the sloth continues and satan sits back very pleased! He is rendering us ineffective for the Kingdom of God.

I am praying for you as you serve our Risen Savior!

Teresa

We must know about the weapons we have to fight against the enemy. They are powerful.

They are outlined in Ephesians 6:13 – 18:

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”

You are called to stand up to the forces of darkness that would seek to destroy you. So let’s begin.

In this first part of the series, I will cover the first piece of armor: You are directed to gird your waist with truth. What does that mean?

Gird means to secure. In ancient times, the soldier wore a belt to hold the other pieces of armor in place, especially the soldier’s weapon – his sword.

Symbolically, the ancients also thought that the waist was the seat of the emotions. Have you ever heard the team “gut feeling”? That is where that expression comes from.

I once heard a pastor say that sin is emotional. Now he did not mean that emotions are sin; after all, God Himself has emotions and He created us to feel.

What the pastor meant was that certain emotions can lead us to sin if the thoughts behind them are not taken captive to the obedience of Jesus Christ. You do this through the power of God’s word.

Emotions that can lead to sin include lust, greed, anger, depression, loneliness, envy, jealousy, or any number of emotions.

That is why you need to slow down instead of running to that familiar behavior when you are tempted to sin.

There is a reason why we tell children in school: “No running in the halls!” We know they are liable to trip and hurt themselves.

In a similar way, the enemy wants you to stay busy (running) so that you don’t have quiet times to rest in the Lord or think about what you are doing.

In that way, you can keep sinning out of impulse.

He wants to convince you that you can’t handle it if you don’t keep running to that sin. And when you do run to it, he is waiting to condemn you with guilt and shame afterwards.

They don’t call it a “vicious circle” for nothing!

A sin cycle is a vicious circle created by a vicious master, Satan.

The way to secure your emotions with the truth is to order your life so that you give God space to enter in. Pray and ask Him:

Open my Spiritual eyes so that I may see what is driving me to act this way. I am weak in this area, Lord so I need you to fill me with strength so that I can take the escape route you have created for me.”

You see, in 1 Corinthians 10:13, God give you a promise to practice for every temptation:

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

Meditate on this and be determined to submit to God in this area. Pray for all of your Christian sisters and brothers who are engaged in battle also.

You have a promise of victory:

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7).”

Living the big story of life is recognizing what is at stake in this Spiritual battle. Submission means “under the mission.”

Your life does not belong to you. In making Jesus as your Savior, you have made Him Lord.

That means His mission is now your mission. Because God’s mission is your mission, then you resist the devil’s mission!

Your time on Earth is limited. So you don’t have time to waste days and even years indulging in things that distract from your mission.

The apostle Paul exhorts us in 2 Timothy 2:1-4:

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.”

Here are some things to remember to help yourself gird your waist with truth:

  • God’s grace makes you strong so that you are empowered to do what He calls you to do. Remind yourself of this often.
  • You will have hardship at times as you strive to fulfill God’s mission. To become a fit soldier requires participating in a daily training program. Training is not always easy because you are striving to learn new ways of thinking and acting. But along with that hardship comes glory and honor. Plus you have the satisfaction of knowing that you are fighting for a righteous cause.
  • You don’t allow life’s distractions to get you off mission. You are aware of your weaknesses and cut off/cut out those things that weaken and distract you. And if you ever find yourself off mission, you get back on as soon as possible!
  • You take time to define and then remind yourself of the big story of life every day. When you remind yourself of the big story, then it makes daily decisions easier to make. When you face life’s annoyances everyday, just say to yourself “Big story! Big story!” After all, the little story of life won’t matter 100 years from now. The Big story is eternal.

To define your part in God’s big story, take some time today to imagine that your Earthly life is over. You are standing before the Lord. He says to you:

Well done, my good and faithful child! Enter into the joy of the Lord.”

How would you have lived to have the Lord say those words to you? Get the picture in your mind and then write down what you see. Some good questions to ask yourself to bring clarity to the picture include:

  • Whom do I serve?
  • How do I serve them?
  • How can I serve them with excellence to bring glory to God?

What is standing in the way of that picture coming to pass? Many people cannot get past their fears because they haven’t taken time to create that picture. Because they are stuck at the level of fear, then they cannot walk in faith.

Faith and focus is what is required to live a life of significance – one that matters. That is what the Lord wants for you.

So gird your waist with truth. Keep that picture in mind because you are destined to obtain it!

How to Get Great Goodness

woman-768702_1280Did you know that God has goodness prepared for you? Not just goodness, but great goodness! It’s so good that other people will see His goodness working in your life.

Psalm 31:19 is a promise and praise about this:

Oh, how great is Your goodness,

Which You have laid up for those who fear You,

Which You have prepared for those who trust in You

In the presence of the sons of men!”

God’s goodness was on my heart this morning as I recalled a question the Holy Spirit asked me several years ago during my prayer time:

How good can you stand it?”

I was at a crossroads in my life. For so long, everything had been a struggle. I struggled with debt, obesity, fear, doubt and feelings of low-self-worth.

But after heeding a powerful word from the Lord, the struggle was over. I paid off the credit card debt and dropped the excess weight, I was finally getting balance in my life. Things were looking good!

Now it seemed the Holy Spirit was asking me to make a decision:

  • “Do you want to be complacent where you are?”

– Or –

  • “Do you want to go to the next level and experience even more of God’s goodness?”

I think God asks that question of all Believers who have a sincere heart to know Him and follow His ways. So I am asking you the question:

How good can you stand it?”

I hope you will answer the question the way I did that morning:

Lord, I can stand as much good as you give me the capacity to stand!”

You are already in position to receive more of God’s goodness because of your identity in Christ. However, many Christians don’t receive all God has for them because they aren’t prepared to receive it.

Psalm 31:19 gives you great wisdom on how to prepare to receive more of God’s great goodness. The Psalm begins:

Oh, how great is Your goodness,

Which You have laid up for those who fear You,”

For whom does this scripture tell you that God’s great goodness is prepared? For those who fear Him!

As God’s people, we are called to fear God, but that is not the “quaking in your boots” kind of fear. After all, He is our Heavenly Father! Rather, we reverence, honor, and respect the Lord enough to do what He says.

Proverbs 9:10 says:

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

You cannot operate in Spiritual wisdom without the fear of the Lord. Operating in wisdom is a key to experiencing God’s great goodness.

However, if God tell you to do something and you ignore Him, then you have just blocked the path of great goodness from entering your life in that area.

Here’s a personal story to illustrate this point. Mike and I have a distant relative who has experienced a lot of trouble in his young years – most of it self-inflicted. We visited his grandmother and after barely speaking to us, the young man went into his room.

The grandmother told us that the young man was under-employed and wanted to earn more money. Mike had knowledge that could help the young man. So Mike called his name and asked him to come out so that he could talk with him.

But the young man did not come out of his room.

I was dumbfounded at his disrespect. Here, Mike had knowledge that could bless the young man and help turn things around in his life, but he would not come out to get it.

Now Mike did not go into the young man’s room. Instead after visiting with the young man’s grandmother a while longer, we left. And Mike’s precious knowledge left with him!

The young man’s response reminded me of the call of Wisdom written about in Proverbs 1:24 – 27:

Because I have called and you refused,
I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,
Because you disdained all my counsel,
And would have none of my rebuke,
I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when your terror comes,
When your terror comes like a storm,
And your destruction comes like a whirlwind,
When distress and anguish come upon you.”

So when the Holy Spirit tells you to do something, do not consider the difficulty involved. Rather rejoice and obey! God wants to give you more of His great goodness! So be wise and receive the opportunity He is offering you.

Now let’s look at the second part of Psalm 31:19 –

Which You have prepared for those who trust in You

In the presence of the sons of men!”

In addition to fearing the Lord, you must trust in Him to receive more of His great goodness.

Proverbs 3:5-6 gives us great guidance in this area:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”

In the natural, you can’t really trust someone that you do not know. It is the same in your relationship with the Lord. How will you ever grow to trust Him more if you don’t spend time with Him? Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do I spend quiet time with the Lord daily, learning about His will through the Bible?
  • Do I acknowledge His presence throughout the day?
  • Do I seek Him in prayer about my daily decisions?
  • Do I maintain a heart of thanksgiving daily for what He has done and continues to do for me?

These are all practical things you can do to acknowledge God in all your ways. When you do this, He promises to direct your path. The Lord will always lead you to His great goodness. You may have some uncomfortable tests and trials along the way, but He will do you good in the end!

In Jeremiah 33:9,  God declares His vision for His people:

Then it shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth, who shall hear all the good that I do to them; they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the prosperity that I provide for it.’”

God is faithful to do His part; now let us purpose in our hearts to do our part so that His great goodness becomes evident in our lives. Our goal is to win others to Christ.

When they see our lives, then it will attract them. The wise ones will want more of God’s goodness for themselves. And there is plenty goodness available to go around!

Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,

Prayer for Spiritual Warfare

shield-33957_1280
If you are facing Spiritual attacks, then prayer is your first line of defense against them.

A while back, my husband Mike had a challenging week. He and several other members of the Intercessory Prayer team at our church were under spiritual attacks, especially with physical ailments.

But Mike is a prayer warrior, so when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord within Mike raises up a standard against him!

If you are facing a Spiritual attack, then prayer is your first line of defense against it.

Mike wrote this prayer for Spiritual warfare to encourage his fellow intercessors.

Mike’s story and prayer follows:

Good morning family of interceding praying warriors,

Praise be to God with grace and blessing to each and every one of you. A few of you are aware that ‘no-good lying wonder’ attacked my body again – in my knee this time.

Suddenly, this past Monday afternoon my left knee swelled up with pain that was almost unbearable. This was the first time I had experienced such an ordeal. I had to use some crutches to get around my house.

But thanks be to God for your prayers because sometime Wednesday afternoon I felt a small pop in my knee and the pain with the swelling started to subside. I was able to put pressure/weight on the knee with minimal discomfort.

By the time Kim arrived home from church I was, in my opinion, 89% healed. I am now 100% completely healed.

I am fully aware why the enemy is attacking me this way and that. I am also aware that he attacks you also.

Our enemy may be shrewd with his attacks but he is very stupid because he picked on the “right” man and the “right” group of people who will come against him and his kingdom with everything within us. With that being said:

__________________________________________________________________

Heavenly Father and in the name of Jesus, we honor & praise you this morning for being with us in all and everything.

It is our delight to honor and serve you in any capacity we can. We are truly honored that you read and hear our prayers and we know that you answer each and every one of them and for that we thank you.

We come to you this morning on behalf of “ALL” the Intercessors and are asking you to equip us for the fight that lies ahead of us in the spiritual which may be manifested in the physical against your arch enemy.

We know you have seen the multiple attacks that he has and is imposing on your people. However, nothing he does will stop any of us from pressing on and through to the very end of this assignment.

Our first offensive attack today against this demon is in the form of this digital prayer since the morning is still fairly new and the words in this prayer will be anointed words that will set the tone for my fellow warriors so that they will be on-guard throughout this day and every day.

I pray that each one will immediately release any bondage or stressful situation they may be going through. I pray that they stay and remain focused as they face situations today whether it be in the workplace, at home or in the public sector.

I pray that you heal their bodies immediately Father (RIGHT NOW IN THE NAME OF JESUS) so that the enemy know he “ain’t” stopping “nuttin” and so that your intercessors can focus on the matters that will disrupt his kingdom.

Father, you know what your intercessors are going through. May you touch and anoint each one today as confirmation that you have heard their prayer and are working accordingly on their behalf today!

For those who are concerned about their children who have to face the problems presented to them in the public schools, send your peace to the student(s) and to the parents for you are our Jehovah Nissi.

For those who have been attacked in their body with afflictions, diseases and ailments, send healing unto them for you are our Jehovah Rapha.

For those who are overwhelmed with the lack of financial stability, send them the knowledge and wisdom to be able to manage their finances then follow that up with an immediate supply of money to help them overcome their current situation as you are our Jehovah Jireh.

Speaking of the money Father, I pray that you take the money from the dope dealers, destructive rappers, crooked politicians and any other unsavory character, group of people or organization and give it to your people so that we can put it to good and Godly use. Why should our enemy have such tools at his disposal to use against your people?

We know you are in control and even now working on all of our behalf and for that we thank-you.

There is so much more I want to pray unto you Father which I shall do indeed. In the meantime, this digital prayer is dedicated to my fellow intercessors.

In Jesus’ name. Amen!

Your son and servant,
Michael
