Day 19: Christian Weight Loss Scripture
Every day in the month of April, I will post an encouraging scripture on my website that I hope will instruct and inspire you on your weight loss journey.
Today’s focus scripture is taken from Proverbs 25:28:
Whoever has no rule over his own spirit
Is like a city broken down, without walls.
In the book of Nehemiah, the people of Israel purposed to re-build the wall around Jerusalem, which its enemies had destroyed. In ancient times, cities were frequently overrun, its possessions plundered and its people carried off to be slaves. So having a wall around the city was a necessary means of protection against such an event.
Many years ago, God revealed to me that taking care of our health is like building a wall of defense for our bodies. What have you done today to build that wall?
Unfortunately, many people are tearing down their walls, brick by brick with the choices they make. This is evident by the growing statistics of obesity and all the diseases that go with it like diabetes, heart disease, stroke and others.
In Proverbs, it says that if you don’t rule your spirit, you are like a city broken down, without walls. What is your spirit? It is your mind, your will, and your emotions. Whenever you do not submit your thoughts, will, and emotions to the obedience of Christ, you leave yourself vulnerable to temptations and addictions.
Alcoholism, Gluttony, Drug Addiction, and all others are just symptoms of the chaos occurring in people’s spirits. And eventually, this chaos is physically manifested on their bodies.
But with God’s help, you can be set free; peace and order can be restored and a wall of defense built.
In the Take Back Your Temple ebook, a key step in the process is to ‘Expect Tests and Be Prepared’. Part of building a wall of defense is to set up your environment to minimize temptations and to make it easier to go the way you want to go. You consider what foods and situations have sabotaged you in the past and you make plans for handling them.
Use your past experiences as building blocks for your wall of defense rather than stumbling blocks to keep yourself stuck.
If you find yourself habitually experiencing negative emotions like depression, anger, and others first take them to the Lord in prayer and then seek out healthy ways to deal with them in the natural.
Decide today that your health will be a priority and that you will build that wall of good health. You will feel stronger, more emotionally stable, and more secure – all qualities that will help you get maximum enjoyment from your life.
Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,
