The Dirty Secret of Sugar Addiction

When people eat a sugary dessert, sometimes they’ll say it’s “to die for.”

Unfortunately for some, that statement becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Many times when we think of sugar addiction, we focus on what the person is eating, sugary items such as candy, cookies, cake, ice cream, pastries or other refined carbohydrates such as white rice, white pastas, or enriched breads.

But we miss what the addicted person is not eating.

It’s what they are not eating that can lead to painful and deadly consequences.

The addicted person is usually not eating the FIBER that God packaged in fruits and vegetables nor drinking enough water, which helps to keep our digestive systems healthy.

Because of this lack, many people are suffering from diseases that affect their bowel elimination.

That’s what I call the “dirty secret of sugar addiction.”

Sugar addiction has left many people suffering from chronic constipation.

Yes, I know some people find this subject embarrassing. However, it’s time to clear your colon and “clear the air” so that we can all become healthier!

When we don’t eat the food the Lord intended for our digestive system to function properly, our guts become sluggish, irritated, and inflamed.

I’ve heard of people who only eliminate every 2 or 3 days.

This is not normal.

No one is immune to this phenomenon. Chronic constipation even killed the beloved entertainer Elvis Presley, according to his physician, Dr. George “Nick” Nichopoulos.

It is well-known that Elvis favored a diet of sweets and junk food. The man-made food trap deceived him and it took his life.

Man stripped all the good fiber and nutrients from corn, beets, and sugar cane to yield the white powder we know as table sugar.

Besides chronic constipation, lack of adequate fiber intake can contribute to various diseases including:

Irritable bowel syndrome
– Diverticulitis
– Leaky gut syndrome
– Hemorrhoids
– Colon cancer

“Ain’t nobody got time for that!”

If you don’t make time for health now, you’ll be forced to make time for sickness later.

The Bible warns about even consuming too much honey, a good sweetener:

  • Proverbs 25:16: Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need, Lest you be filled with it and vomit.
  • Proverbs 25:27: It is not good to eat much honey; So to seek one’s own glory is not glory.

Just think about what man-made sweeteners do!

To avoid the pain and cost of disease, think “replace” when it comes to your food choices.

By this, I mean to replace those items in your eating pattern with foods that help you eliminate smoothly and keep your digestive system moving forward the way it should.

To help with my sweet tooth and add fiber, I like:

  • Baked sweet potatoes in the oven (I bake for 1 hour in a 375 degree oven or until the juice runs out). They are so sweet that all you need to add is cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries (Stevia is a natural plant-based sweetener you can add if you like)
  • Pears

Remember, you can eat anything, but you shouldn’t eat everything.

Keeping a peaceful mindset is important, both having peace with your food choices and during elimination.

If your digestive system isn’t moving, then your diet isn’t “grooving.” Yes, I know that was corny.

But I care about you and want you to stay healthy.

So I’m bringing this dirty secret out into the open so that we all can be healthier.

Let’s get moving and grooving.

We can “do our business” so that we are able to get on with our Father’s business!

Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,

  • So good to be reminded .
Have cleaned out left over sweets from holidays. Did not bake the gingerbread cookies yet but will use an alternative to sugar.
I do have a question though.. you mention using stevia without erythritol.. why no erythritol?
This Christmas Eve instead of taking sweets to our family gathering I took a hard cheese platter with sausage and mustard and some whole grain sugar free crackers. It went over well.
I am finding that peppermint tea with no sweetener is soothing. Also my cauliflower mash potatoes with Grassfed butter and Parmesan cheese and a little half and half whipped in passed for mashed potatoes until someone spilled the beans. And a little xanthan gum with chicken bone broth thickened the Turkey drum stick drippings and made gravy for the cauliflower mash!
But Kim , even when I have my home cleared of all the sugar temptations I still break down and get in my car and find a snack I should nit be eating snd bring it home. I am praying about this, reading supportive scripture and am trying to hone in on the trigger . I want God to reveal the root of this so I can overcome it by His grace and of course right action / change on my part. Jennah

  • This was for me.Hit me right between the eyes. The Lord has been dealing with me about my sugar addiction. I saw a holistic Doctor Who told me that I can take food grade diatomaceous earth twice a day for two weeks on two weeks off. Sugar has caused a parasite in my intestines. Thank you so much I have like this so that I can read and reread it. Blessings Gracie
