I would highly recommend adding exercise to this list! Moderate, daily exercise has been proven to be as effective, or even more effective than medication to relieve symptoms of mild to moderate depression. I can attest to this firsthand! After experiencing some moderate post-partum depression after the birth of my second child, even just the thought of exercising was completely overwhelming. I ended up going on medication for depression, which helped to get me out of the pit and onto the treadmill, but once I began exercising, I found that I no longer needed the meds! As soon as I let off on the exercise, my brain goes back to that heavy, foggy, tired, depressed feeling all over again. I then have to fight my way back out of that pit and get back on the treadmill, but it works every time. When the weather is nice, getting outside for a brisk walk in the sunshine is even better! I'd much rather do something that is beneficial for my body and my mind than be dependent on chemicals!
