Pizza for Breakfast

So this morning I ate pizza for breakfast.

It wasn’t even a healthy breakfast pizza. It was pizza with pepperoni and sausage. No vegetables.

What? How is that even possible for a health-minded person?

Well, I’ll tell you.

See, I believe you can eat any food you want.

In this case, my husband Mike and I visited a sick friend in the hospital yesterday. We ran errands after that.

I knew I wasn’t going to feel like cooking after running around all day. So I decided I wanted pizza for dinner.

It was good. But we didn’t eat all of it. So I put what was left over into the refrigerator.

This morning when I woke up, I thought about what to eat for breakfast.

Now under normal circumstances, my decision is already made.

I have oatmeal/quinoa mixed together most of the time. Sometimes, I will have scrambled eggs with cheese, with Salsa on the side to mix things up.

But this morning, I wanted pizza.

So I took 1 slice of pizza out of refrigerator. It was a pretty large slice, so I cut it in half.

I have learned from experience the right amount I need to eat for me in one serving.

I heated it up in the microwave. Got myself a large glass of water with lemon and ginger to wash it down.

Then, I sat down to eat it. It was still good!

I was satisfied. No guilt here.

Here is my thought: If you want to have pizza for breakfast some time, then eat it!

Personally, I eat healthy about 80-90% of the time. The percentage varies depending on the week.

The other 10-20% is for times when I want to eat less than healthy food, such as a piece of birthday cake at a party or ribs at a barbecue.

Or for those rare occasions when I want pizza for breakfast!

The key is to eat these things on your terms, in an amount that satisfies your hunger but doesn’t make you feel stuffed.

You stay out of Bottomless Food Pits.

And you choose to eat it mindfully, not because you were driven to it by addiction or the lies of Last Supper Eating.

Isn’t it great that you have the flexibility to eat any food you want? But you get to choose what you want…both now and in the future.

While I had pizza for breakfast today, I won’t have it for breakfast tomorrow. The oatmeal/quinoa gives me energy all morning and I like that.

Even though the pizza tastes good, it may wear off before lunch. If it does, I have an apple at the ready if I get hungry.

So what kind of eating day will it be for you? Will you feel good about your choices?

Today, I feel good about managing my portion of pizza for breakfast. Food freedom feels good!

Love to hear your thoughts about this.

Be blessed with health, healing, and wholeness,

  • Great sharing I feel inspired that I can eat mindfully and eat a small portion of a food like pizza and feel satisfied. However, it is a challenge for me.

  • I love having pizza for breakfast! Then the starchy carbs are out of the way in the morning and I can burn them off during the day so they don’t sit in my belly and turn to fat!

  • I love this article. And, Kimberly, for the first time ever, I am approaching my Fitness Journey with a completely different mindset — thanks to the Lord’s help and the empowering of the Holy Spirit reinforced by your TBYT curriculum. Thank you! The Lord is reinforcing the gospel of his unconditional grace in my life — and how that extends into my stewardship of HIS temple / my body. I’m standing in the Liberty by which Christ has made me free (Gal 5:1) so that I don’t get entangled in the bondage of either (1) my previous unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle; OR (2) my past approach of “performance-based” “all-or-nothing” diet mentality. Knowing and understanding the TRUTH — that I am making intentional choices — has set me free to a lifestyle that I believe I can truly maintain from here on out. In Jesus’ Name I am praying and believing it!!

    • Hi Dawn – yep, each person is different. I’ve learned that I can practice moderation with pizza, as long as I don’t park the box in front of me while watching TV. Then it becomes a bottomless food pit!

But some other items are harder for me to practice moderation on. For example, I wouldn’t eat danish for breakfast because I’ve learned from past experience that it would hijack my brain and leave me thinking about danish all day. I’ve got better things I want to occupy my thoughts than danish! So you have to know what works best for you and your brain chemistry.

  • Kimberly, as always your post is so timely for me! My pizza moment was last night. I cooked a frozen pizza for my son and after it was cooked it looked and smelled so delicious! I had already eaten some soup and a healthy veggie for dinner, but I just had to have one piece of that pizza. So, I cut a slice in half, and enjoyed it thoroughly! I logged it into my app called “Lose It” and was amazed that I was still under for allotted calories for the day. Today I’m feeling happy that I made the decision to eat that slice of pizza and am back on track this morning. I love loving free!

  • I love this! I have a similar 80/20 rule! 80% of the time I eat the best possible food for my body that I can. 20% of the time I make room for celebrations, the breakfast-for-pizza-type-mornings, and life circumstances. Knowing I have this rule in place keeps me away from emotional guilt of not making the best decision. Because the 20% happens! It does not make me a failure, or mean that I’ve screwed up my diet, or fallen off the wagon, it just means I was in the 20%.

      • The word always stresses moderation! The key to life in Christlike living. Whether it be food choices, the way we dress, our finances and etc! God gave us a brain and a heart to go along with the Free Will he allowed us on this earth.

  • I can relate to you. I once had a frizen chocolate covered banana for breakfast. Might of not been the best choice, but it didn’t hurt me. Thanks for sharing!
