Top 20 Ways to Manage your Emotions

I was watching a documentary recently about the late children’s TV host Mr. (Fred) Rogers in which he was discussing a song he wrote called, ‘”What Do you Do with the Mad that you Feel?”

It prompted me to create a Top 20 list for adults to answer the question: ‘What do you do with the emotions you feel?”

What do you do with the emotions you feel?

God Himself experiences emotions and we were created in His image. So we glorify Him when we handle our emotions wisely.

Here is my top 20 list. I arranged them alphabetically to make them easier to remember:

When your emotions bring you low, move to higher ground. This is my favorite scripture to meditate on and practice when emotions threaten to overwhelm me:

From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

– Psalm 61:2

May these quick tips help you process your emotions in healthy ways rather than bury them!

  • I had such a tough weekend. This article was so encouraging. I just added this scripture to my journal. God bless you Kimberly.

  • Hi Kimberly! Those are all such wonderful ideas! I love that Bible verse also! I was wondering if there is a spot on your website where you really explain what happened to you when you decided to get serious about losing weight. I know you’ve shared about your fear of the heart attack, but what exactly did you do after that? I would love to hear more of your story of how you got motivated and got serious.

  • I’m an emotional eater, my eighteen year old daughter is not but is trying to find her way through social anxiety issues. However, just last night she asked me about things she can do to help herself relax. I though about her when I read this and will share this with her. It will also be a blessing to me. Thank you!!!

    • Thankful that this is helpful to you, Dara 🙂 I used to suffer from social anxiety as well and know how tough that is to overcome. But nothing is impossible with our God!

  • Love the A-Z idea! It gives me different options, so, if the emotions don’t subside on the 1st try, there’s other ideas available to deal with them. Thanks so much!

    GOD EFFORT TIME

    One of my favorite acronyms.

We “Get” to do life with Him. Lean on Him and believe He is right by you through every bend and dip on your path. Proverbs 4:18 (TPT)
But the lovers of God walk on the highway of light, and their way shines brighter and brighter until they bring forth the perfect day.
